How Many Ways to God?
I keep hearing people say that there are many paths to God. So, if all religions are worshiping God, it does not matter.
The belief that all religions, spiritual paths, and philosophies ultimately lead to the same God and the same spiritual destination is rooted in a misunderstood identity of God.
Let me clarify the God I am talking about. The God I am talking about is the God who created the heavens and the earth, and everything in them. Everything.
God is a spirit with a divine nature. Our human nature will not allow us to fully understand spiritual things. Human nature is our innate disposition, our fundamental behaviors, and cognitive patterns such as thinking, feeling, and acting. That nature operates in a particular way. It is our operating system, which humans develop from the womb. We were not born with a divine nature that would allow us to understand God fully. We lost the divine nature we shared with God due to disobedience in the garden.
Studying and understanding God through human nature’s operating system is like a video game character trying to study and explain its programmer. The video game character believes it can explain the programmer’s world and how it operates. It cannot. It is limited within its environment. Just to be clear, this is only an analogy. Our thinking, our cognitive patterns, and our fundamental behaviors are limited to the universe we live in.
So, how many ways are there to God? One way. Why? Because our human nature is a sinful nature, and the consequence of sin is death. It is a spiritual law. Yes, every human being born, along with Satan and his minions, are under the sentence of death because that is a spiritual law.
God does not change spiritual and physical laws. Yes, demons have manipulated spiritual laws to deceive, and humans have manipulated physical laws, but the fundamental laws remain the same. What goes up comes down, gravity. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. You get the picture, right?
For our human nature to transform into a divine nature, for us to connect to God directly and begin to understand Him, God gave us a process as a gift. That process is the only path, the only way to Him, and the only way to our transformation. It is a spiritual issue that needs a spiritual solution.
There is nothing we can do to change our nature into a divine nature. Nothing, except follow the process. Going back to the analogy, only the programmer can change the nature of the video game character.
This is the process: We hear about God’s begotten Son, Jesus, which we call the Gospel or the Good News. (Yes, He was begotten of God, a spiritual mystery. Remember, we are operating with human faculties). Secondly, because the word of God is Spirit, something pierces our hearts to reveal our nature and want to turn to God (coming to our senses). We then have a choice to accept Jesus as the savior or the way to connect us to God here and eternity. We turn away from the kingdom of darkness in the world and choose Jesus’s way (repentance). Then our transformation process begins.
When Jesus came to this world, He was not conceived by human seed, so He did not inherit human nature. He was fully God and fully man, another mystery our minds cannot wrap around. His death paid for our sins. In the spiritual realm, all sins were added to Him on the cross. We could not see that. We only saw a man dying on the cross, but God the Father saw all sins added to His Son, and Jesus became so dark and disfigured spiritually that God had to turn away. Then He went into the realm of the dead, and He conquered death by rising from the dead.
Our sins died with Jesus, and Jesus defeated death itself, so the payment for the sins of all humans was paid. And we accept the gift of payment and turn away from sin. It is a spiritual process that requires faith.
We cannot see our spirit and soul, but demons can. They can tell who has God’s Spirit in them, and who does not. Acts 19:13–16 tells us about seven Jewish exorcists who attempted to use the name of Jesus over a man possessed with an evil spirit. Spoiler alert: the spirit within the man said, “I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” The one man with the evil spirit beat the seven exorcists, and they fled from the house naked.
A word of caution: not all Christians have the new spirit and the mark of the Holy Spirit in them. So do not base your decision to turn to Jesus on the behaviors of others. This is your life and your eternal soul.
Soul, from the Hebrew word nephesh, is connected to breath, life, and living being. In Genesis 2:7, God breathed into man the breath of life, and man became a living soul. No human being or spirit apart from God can create a soul. He created you. This is not an ancient story. This is your story. You are the only one with your voice, your gait, your ear shape, your eyes, your tongue print, your heart rhythm, and on and on. You are unique, and God wants to transform your human nature into His divine nature so that you will finally get to know Him and avoid the destination He created for Satan and his minions.
So, as Christians, please do not deceive people or yourselves by stating or agreeing that all roads lead to God. God has provided us a way to be connected to Him, to pay for our sins, and to give us a divine nature. It is ONLY through Jesus Christ. He is the spiritual solution; the spiritual cure our God created for us.
I hope this clarifies the issue of many ways to God. The devotional is below.
May the Lord continue to open our eyes of understanding to understand the scriptures and to know Him more. Make it a great week.
5-Day Devotional: The Way Home
Day 1: Created for Divine Connection
Reading: Genesis 1:26–31; Genesis 2:7; Ephesians 1:17; 1 Corinthians 2:10–16; Psalm 139:13–16
Devotional:
It was God who created you. Do you believe that? There is only one of you. Your voice, your fingerprints, your heart rhythm, and so much more are unique. Your soul bears His signature. Our human nature limits our ability to fully grasp the magnitude of this statement. We think intellectually. Yet our Creator, God, is a Spirit, and His language is spiritual. Therefore, God reveals Himself through His Spirit.
How do you learn His language? It is simple. All you have to do is ask. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes of understanding to understand what He is saying in the Bible. Remember, you cannot figure out everything about God before asking. This is called faith.
Day 2: The Problem of Sin and Separation
Reading: Genesis 6:5–6; 1 Corinthians 2:14; Psalm 51:5; Isaiah 59:2; Romans 3:23; 1 Corinthians 15:50
Devotional:
Disobedience to God is sin. But did you know that sin is not only an action? Scripture also speaks of sin as a power at work in fallen humanity. The Bible often personifies Satan, the author of sin. In my upcoming book on identity, which may already be out if you are reading this later, I delve a little deeper. But for today, understand that this disobedience spiritually cut us off from God, our Creator. The consequence of sin is death. That is a spiritual law. Just as physical laws remain unchangeable, so do spiritual laws. We cannot reconnect ourselves to God because it is a spiritual problem. If the only consequence of sin is death, how can we avoid or pay for death without dying? We cannot.
Take a moment and reflect. What are your intentions behind your activities? Maybe doing good works or religious activities? Are you doing them to earn your way to heaven? Be honest with yourself. This is not a condemnation. It is a call to recognize that religious activities and trying to improve through self-will cannot solve the spiritual disconnect, nor can they change your human nature. Only God can provide a solution.
Day 3: The Gift of Transformation
Reading: Ezekiel 36:26–27; John 3:3 1 John 3:9; 2 Peter 3:9
Devotional:
Remember day one of this devotion? God created you, and He wants you to unite with Him. He offers a new spirit and a new heart sensitive to His desires. This gift is through what Jesus did for us. Jesus took upon Himself the consequences of all sins, so we do not have to experience spiritual death. Only through faith, repentance, and acceptance can we transform into His likeness. It is a spiritual solution for a spiritual problem.
If you have accepted Jesus Christ, thank God for your new nature. If you have not, consider accepting this gift of a new nature. Jesus already paid the consequence of sin just for you.
Day 4: The Exclusive Path to the Father
Reading: John 14:6; John 3:3; Acts 16:30–31; 1 John 2:23; 1 John 5:11–12; 2 Peter 3:9
Devotional:
In our culture, claiming that there is only one way to God sounds ludicrous. We must be careful and clear about our convictions. The process of spiritual transformation is not determined by culture. Jesus told many parables, but one thing He declared clearly: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” And “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” All other paths are false. The belief that all roads lead to God deceives people and keeps them ignorant of their spiritual condition.
Compassion alone cannot save a person from the consequences of sin. The truth is lifesaving, and all you must do is share the gift that was freely given to you. God does not want anyone to perish but desires all to come to repentance and transformation.
Day 5: Living in Your Divine Nature
Reading: 2 Peter 1:3–4; 1 John 3:9; Galatians 5:16; 1 Peter 4:1–6; Philippians 3:5–8
Devotional:
Now that you have a new spirit and a new heart, your transformation begins. It is a fascinating journey to grow spiritually. With your new nature, you will understand spiritual truths. The Holy Spirit within you works with your new spirit to help you grow while connecting you directly to God the Father and Jesus your King. You will learn about God the Father and Jesus Christ, and you will experience their love. Your new nature will enable you to think differently and love supernaturally. Think about it. You cannot love your enemies and pray for those who hurt you with the old human nature.
Reflect on how your desires are changing. Do not compare your transformation with others. Remember, we are all unique, and each of us will experience a different growth process and a unique relationship with our Father and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Encourage one another. Let those still living with human nature look at you and want what you have. Then share with them the gift of a new nature.
